Biofuel

50 m chinese use biogas for fuel - here's 30 million of them anyway and a description of how it works ... as you can see from the picture some of them have very basic kitchens.

CSG and GDP

Us silly little protesters about CSG .... that's how a lot of these articles come across; because it's a huge growth industry .... apparently it's 18% of the GNP

  • Santos commissioned Allen Consulting to show the Economic Impacts of CSG gas mining in NSW; particularly in north west NSW has benefits such as jobs, government revenue, and underground water.  They succintly suggest that we are using it already.
  • Deloitte Access Economics, in Harnessing Our Comparative Energy Advantage (June 2012) ... is a comphrehensive guide full of facts and figures; at least it mentions such mining products are a non-renewable resource; no more money comes from it once sold; and it mentions that CSG was formerly seen as a by-product of mining and that CSG is turned into LNG for transportation and storage - discusses the employment and taxation issues.

Fracking - notes

Noticed in the news that several of China's rare earth mines will be closed for another month.  They reported that this is intended to drive the prices up, as they have been dropping.  China produces 97% of the world's rare earth.

Rare earth elements are important in the production of mobile phones, televisions, laptops; solar cells and wind turbines.

Fracking is also used in mining rare earth; and problems of pollution from that reached such proportions 10 years ago that safer methods had to be sought; mining companies have to be able to make intelligent announcements that their manufacturing process is safe.

David T. Stephenson (May 2012) and Renee Cho (September 2012) both talk on aspects of rare earth mining.

China Windpower Centre lists quite a lot of wind turbine manufacturers.  Wikipedia's list is more international.

So far, no mention of coal seam gas mining when discussing fracking : Cho quotes the Chinese Society for Rare Earth estimating that "that the refinement of one ton of rare earth metals results in 75 cubic meters of acidic wastewater and one ton of radioactive residue."

The American EPA issued a study in 2012, completed in 2011 when there was already a downtreend in prices for Rare Earth Elements (REE),

Rare Earth Elements A Review of Production, Processing, Recycling and Associated Environmental Issues

Fracking is getting safer ... says Jon Entine, introducing a university-funded independant study. With such credentials the report is taken as correct. Brian Westernhaus in New Fracking Technology to Bring Huge Supplies of Oil and Gas to the Market describes developments in the process; and the very competitive nature of the industry.

This animation of hydraulic fracking mentions that the gas and oil have been there for tens of millions of years; and does not give details of how the contaminated water is removed; just says follows strict guidelines

.......

Back to NSW; fracking may be safer but some people dont want it; others make money from it.

Start of a New Blog

Greetings on this sad day ...

This blog is to record my Christmas 2012 concentration on the current Coal Seam Gas drilling and Fracking Syndrome crisis in Australia and Overseas.

It's my Christmas Present/End of the Mayan Clock to Gaia.

In early January 2013 SBS will be screening Dirty Business with one of the quotes from the show saying "the mining business is more powerful than the Australian Government" ....

I will be concentrating on New South Wales, Australia as that is where i am : aiming to put all of the links of all of the dedicated hard-working people whose lives have been affected by it and who have already staked their goal of impressing on money-dorked governments that mistakes have been made before (like introducing rabbits and foxes - not that i dont like rabbits and foxes).

I, myself, became passionate about it because I would love to move to the country and be one with the land, in whatever level i can, at my age.  But to have the threat of 'dirty business' has dissuaded me until we have won the battle.

The battle is being fought on many fronts; New York, for instance and the fabulous Lock The Gate .

My first endeavour will be, armed with the UBD of NSW's "Cities and Towns", (2009), to read Sharyn Munro's Rich Land Wasteland, which has been waiting patiently in the bookshelf.

I will also be returning to songwriting for this cause. . . some may groan at that prospect but many many decades have elapsed !

With peace and love,
" Gwen Will "
